The Irritable Bowel Syndrome Candida Link

Posted in Candida on April 26th, 2007

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is something that is often mistaken for another condition. Though Colitis and Crohn’s Disease also affects the same areas, they are not the same thing. IBS is often something that is diagnosed after all other possibilities are exhausted. It can sometimes be associated with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and there are some theories that suggest a strong Irritable Bowel Syndrome Candida link, but there are others that refute this.

IBS varies in degrees from person to person. Some have severe cases that greatly diminish their quality of life, whereas others just have episodes on occasion.

Those with the mild form may have some life interruption, but many times this is just a minor inconvenience. IBS is often down to abnormal activity with the muscles of the intestinal walls. Stress and eating the wrong foods are common triggers, and can lead to diarrhea or constipation, cramps, sweating, bloating, gas, pain. Having a bowel movement doesn’t always relieve the cramping and pain either.

There has yet to be a cause pinpointed for this atypical behavior in the intestines. What is known is that the spastic muscle movements will trigger a series of symptoms, and bouts can last a few hours to a few weeks.

Some believe that IBS might be triggered or even caused by the overgrowth of the Candida yeast that seems to be so prevalent. Though many have it in their systems, most with healthy immune systems and who don’t have any other conditions have no problem keeping it in check.

The body normally contains candida where it will not do any harm. However, when the immune system is compromised in anyway, Candida can grow, and begin to cause problems throughout the body. Because it is often found in the intestines, it would make sense that it might contribute to bouts of IBS in some people.

A person who suspects that they might have an Irritable Bowel Syndrome Candida problem should talk to their doctor about treatment. However, it should be noted that there are some medical professionals who do not believe Candida is the problem that many make it out to be. Some doctors may be reluctant to see a connection between the two conditions, as they do not believe Candida can cause any type of medical problem.

They might offer you other types of treatment, but when it comes to IBS, there aren’t many options. If a person really feels they have an Irritable Bowel Syndrome Candida problem they should go find another doctor for a second opinion. If a medical doctor cannot be found that will help with this, you can always try to find someone well versed in Chinese medicine to help out. Once the problems with Candida are treated, the IBS may or may not go away. If it does not, then there is another reason why it is happening.

How to Start Chinese Medicine Candida Treatments

Posted in Candida on April 19th, 2007

Candida yeast can grow out of control for many reasons. One of these reasons may be a vitamin or mineral deficiency, but more commonly, this happens when the immune system is not working as well as it should. This yeast can live within the body without causing any problems for a very long time, but when it multiplies unchecked it can lead to fungal infections, vaginal yeast infections, and thrush. It can also produce infections in the sinuses and in the respiratory system. There are some effective Chinese medicine Candida treatments that might help keep infections and yeast at bay.

Someone who suspects a Candida problem can visit a Chinese medical establishment for help. The practitioner will closely evaluate the signs and symptoms associated with that person’s particular case. They will look for many different signs and symptoms associated with the patients particular complaint. This can be any of the conditions that Candida yeast can be responsible for. Many of the problems they may find might be labeled as dampness, Qi blockages, damp-heat, and immune deficiency.

Along with the symptoms, a practitioner will want a complete rundown of medical history and also will ask about lifestyle. The body as a whole must be treated, and there are many conditions and other things that can contribute to Candida problems.

Some medical conditions that might contribute to this are AIDS and cancer, and it might also be a problem with some who have diabetes. Medications like antibiotics, chemotherapy drugs, and birth control pills can cause issues. Another thing that contributes to Candida yeast production is a diet that is high in sugars and yeasts. Alcohol is also a big culprit.

Because Candida is considered to be a problem with too much ‘damp’ in the system by TCM practitioners, it is often counteracted with ‘fire.’ This is done by a variety of herbs that are meant to counteract the effects of damp. Along with this, a change in diet might be called for.

When a diet is high in sugars, the yeast has encouragement to grow. When it comes to medications for diseases, the diet changes might not help. Acupuncture might be used to trigger certain points in the body to promote a stronger immune system. A weak immune system is often a cause related with many common medical problems, and when this is stimulated the patient might find relief for more than just the problems they are having with Candida.

When seeking Chinese medicine Candida treatments, it is important to be honest when giving an account of medical history and lifestyle. There are things that might affect treatment. Don’t be embarrassed to be honest, as your honesty is key to your treatment.

Though not all Candida overgrowth will be easily treated, listening and following all treatment directions is the best way to go. It is never a good idea to attempt to take Chinese medicine Candida treatments without the proper guidance of a professional. Though they should be harmless for the most part, they can interact with prescriptions or other things that you might be taking, and some can interfere with the effectiveness of the birth control pill.

The Link Between Candida and Vitamin B12 Deficiency

Posted in Candida on April 12th, 2007

Vitamin B12 is essential for good health in many different ways. It aids in helping the nervous system function properly, and also helps with blood cell production. This comes in many forms, but the most common sources are in meats, diary products, and in eggs. Though B12 deficiency can happen to anyone, strict vegetarians are often at risk because they don’t eat any of those mentioned things. There are many different things that occur with a deficiency, and there appears to be a link between Candida and vitamin B12.

There are some conditions that can attribute to a deficiency in B12. Some are common sense and some are surprising.

Alcoholics are at risk as are those who have Crohn’s disease. There is an intrinsic factor that helps the body absorb B12 in the stomach and intestines, and if someone has had surgery in either area, that factor may have been affected or is missing.

When that happens, the B12 can not be absorbed as it should be. Someone with this problem will have no appetite, bouts of loose stools, and they might feel very weak. They might also notice a shortness of breath, problems with tingling or numbness in the extremities, and might even experience some mental fog.

Anemia brought on by a vitamin B12 deficiency must be treated. This can be accomplished in a few different ways, but it is urgent that it happens quickly. This is something that is rather easy to treat, and that is the good news for anyone with this condition. Usually a balanced diet will take care of the deficiency, though this might be hard for the strict vegetarian. Many times diet changes and a supplement of B12 will do the trick, and in some cases, shots might be needed rather than a pill. Some people will require these injections for life.

So, you may be wondering if Candida can be effected by a vitamin b12 deficiency. This is a yeast that grows in the body, most notably in the vaginal area and in the intestines. In most cases, it is kept under control by the body’s immune system. However, when there is a lack of B12 the immune function is impaired and Candida can then grow out of control. When this happens, a person might notice headaches, mental fog, tiredness, sinus issues, mood swings, loss of concentration, and even a craving for sweet foods.

In order to treat Candida, the deficiency of vitamin B12 will need to be taken care of first. When the proper balance of B12 is restored, the Candida can then be kept in check after a course of treatment and it has reverted back to its normal state with in the body. Now that you know Candida and Vitamin B12 are related, the knowledge should encourage you to eat a more balanced diet to avoid the further complications associated with a b12 deficiency.

Commonly Overlooked Candidiasis Symptom

Posted in Candida on April 5th, 2007

In many cases, a candidiasis symptom can usually be treated and controlled with essential oils.  That being said, for some individuals, candidiasis can be complicated to treat.  This is because candida can be a difficult condition to diagnose, as many of its symptoms are often overlooked and ignored.

Candidiasis is a yeast infection that begins when an overgrowth of candida albicans (which naturally exist in our bodies) multiply and overrun other good bacteria in the digestive system.  Candida will first affect the intestinal tract and then slowly make its way to other parts of the body, often eventually resulting in an external fungal infection.

Most people don’t even know they have a candida overgrowth problem until they experience a serious candidiasis symptom, such as vaginal yeast infection, oral thrush, athlete’s foot, nail fungus or other fungal infections on different body parts.  However, symptoms of candidiasis are present far before a person develops an external health condition they can see.

This is because when in the intestines, candidiasis releases a large volume of toxins and allergens, as well as additional substances that effect hormones.  All of this occurs without raising any suspicions that the actual culprit causing problems is candida.

The symptoms of candida one initially experiences may not be considered out of the ordinary and be brushed aside, such as a symptom that causes an allergic reaction to food.  On the other hand, they may lead a person to believe they are suffering from another health problem altogether, if, for instance, the candidiasis symptom they experience is depression.

The following are typical candidiasis symptoms that are often overlooked:

• Gastrointestinal distress – abdominal pain, bloating, gas, stomach and intestinal cramps, as well as chronic heartburn, constipation or diarrhea
• Food and airborne allergies
• Extreme sensitivity to perfume, chemicals, smoke and other odors
• Rectal itching
• Recurring urinary track infections and vaginal yeast infections
• Recurring fungal infections such as athlete’s foot, ringworm and many other forms of dermatitis.
• Prostatitis (inflammation of the prostate gland caused by bacterial infection)
• Severe PMS
• Bad breath
• Headaches
• Muscle aches or weakness
• Impotence or loss of libido
• Feeling very light headed or drunk after ingesting certain foods or having minimal alcohol (I.E. single glass of wine, or one beer).
• Dizziness
• Memory loss
• Extreme moodiness
• Mentally unsettled – IE feeling “spaced out” or off kilter.
• Difficulty concentrating
• Chronic fatigue, particularly prominent after eating
• Depression
• Anxiety attacks
• And the list goes on and on

As you can see from the wide range of mild and serious symptoms listed above, candidiasis can be extremely difficult to diagnose, as it can affect a person both physically and emotionally.

That being said, what usually leads to a diagnosis of candiasis is the presence of more than one candidiasis symptom.  Therefore, the more you can tell your doctor about any and all the symptoms you are experiencing, the closer you will be to receiving a more accurate diagnosis.

If you are experiencing any of the above symptoms, or those not listed, and you suspect candida, it’s time for you to get serious about your health and take four important steps:

1. Educate yourself – Learn everything you can about candidasis and its related symptoms.  The best place to conduct your research is online.

2. Create a symptoms diary – write down any candiasis symptoms you experience, (I.E. reactions to food, irritations to products, allergies, frequent headaches, chronic stomach upset, moodiness, emotional troubles, etc.).

3. Make an appointment with your doctor - Bring your symptoms diary with you and discuss your health.  The more information you can provide your doctor, the better.  Don’t rely on self-diagnosis in case you are suffering from a health condition other than candida.

4. Obtain treatment – There are many ways you can control candida in your body to prevent an overgrowth and candidiasis symptom.  One of the best methods is to follow an anti-candida diet, and use alternative remedies over drug treatments to treat health conditions whenever possible.
